Pull gfs2 updates from Andreas Gruenbacher:
- Don't cache unreferenced glocks: when a glock is no longer referenced
(for example, because the inode it protects is evicted), it is now
released as soon as possible instead of leaving it around until
memory pressure or an unmount forces it out.
For some workloads, this saves a lot of memory and speeds up unmounts
significantly.
- Harden gfs2_glock_hold() by making sure the caller holds a reference
and fix a related race in checking for the liveliness of glocks
between gdlm_bast() and gfs2_glock_cb().

Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"Bigger cleanups:
- The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.
The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
relies on information the caller should not have.
- make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
used to peek under it.
Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
that bug.
- vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.
This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
explicitly already.
- move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.
None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.
Smaller fixes and cleanups:
- unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use
clear_and_wake_up_bit()
- the pipe page pools are unified into a single per-pipe pool and the
extra wake_up(rd_wait) is limited to EPOLLET consumers
- eventpoll now computes its timer slack lazily in ep_poll()
- shrink_dcache_for_umount() keeps making progress on busy roots
- excess xarray nodes are freed in clear_inode()
- romfs detects hard link cycles
- the user path of nested backing files is fixed
- pidfd holds exec_update_lock around the namespace ioctl
- non-memcg-aware nr_cached_objects is skipped during memcg slab
shrink
- iomap_write_iter() always returns status
- mangle_path() is renamed to seq_mangle_path()
- inode timestamp accessors are annotated
- new regression test for pipe->poll_usage.
- a few documentation, kernel-doc and selftest fixes"

Function gfs2_glock_hold() is expected only to be called when the glock is
held, so use lockref_get_not_zero() instead of lockref_get_not_dead().
In addition, when an asynchronous callback arrives in gfs2_glock_cb(), the
glock can already be dead (from __gfs2_glock_put()), or it can be on the glock
lru list with refcount 0, so we cannot use gfs2_glock_hold() there.
With gfs2_glock_cb() now handling dead glocks, we can remove the racy check in
gdlm_bast().

Convert gfs2 iomap_ops to the new ->iomap_next() callback. The callback is
generated with the DEFINE_IOMAP_ITER_NEXT_END() macro, which wraps the
iomap_iter_next() helper to finish the previous mapping if needed and
produce the next one. No functional changes are intended.

The only time that 'false' is passed as the 'excl' arg to the ->create
inode_operation is in lookup_open() when ->atomic_open is not provided
by the parent directory.
*all* directory inode_operations which do not have ->atomic_open
completely ignore the 'excl' arg.
Therefore we don't need the 'excl' arg. Those few ->create operations
which pay attention to the arg are only ever called with a value of
'true'.
We remove that arg and change all ->create operations to behave as those
thhe arg were 'true'.

When we were still caching unreferenced glocks, evicting all the cached inodes
in gfs2_kill_sb() did put the unreferenced glocks onto the glock lru list, and
they would be freed in gfs2_gl_hash_clear(). We could set the
SDF_SKIP_DLM_UNLOCK flag in gfs2_gl_hash_clear() to indicate to gdlm_put_lock()
to skip unlocking glocks explicitly when possible. Now, glocks are demoted and
dropped immediately though, so to allow gdlm_put_lock() to skip unnecessary
unlocking, we need to set some "unmount" flag before calling
gfs2_evict_inodes(). We can use the existing SDF_KILL flag for that if we set
it before calling gfs2_evict_inodes() in gfs2_kill_sb().

Currently, gfs2 caches unreferenced glocks until memory pressure sets in or the
filesystem is unmounted. This was supposedly done to avoid excessive log
flushing: when a glock still has outstanding revokes, freeing it requires an
extra log flush, and we want to avoid too many of those extra log flushes.
Since commit 9287c6452d2b1 ("gfs2: Fix occasional glock use-after-free"),
outstanding revokes are accounted for in the glock reference count and glocks
with outstanding revokes will never be freed anymore, so this is no longer an
issue.
This also means that we won't need a glock LRU list anymore, but we leave
removing that list to a later patch for better readability.
It might seem that glocks that are not referenced anymore can be dropped
immediately without unlocking them first, but that isn't true for inode glocks
that have an address space attached (the "gfs2_glock(aspace)" slab cache): that
address space is only truncated when the associated glock is unlocked. So
unlock those glocks when they become unreferenced.

Processes can write to the last page of a file using mmap, and when the file
size is not a multiple of the page size, this can be used to write beyond the
end of the file. This is sometimes referred to as page poisoning, and it is
not a problem in itself because the data beyond eof will be ignored. However,
we currently fail to clear out any space beyond the end of the file that we
skip over when the file size is increased, so that "poison" can end up getting
exposed. Fix that.

This flag indicates the path should be opened if it's a regular file.
This is useful to write secure programs that want to avoid being
tricked into opening device nodes with special semantics while thinking
they operate on regular files. This is a requested feature from the
uapi-group[1].
The previously introduced EFTYPE error code is returned when the path
doesn't refer to a regular file. For example, if openat2 is called on
path /dev/null with OPENAT2_REGULAR in the flag param, it will return
-EFTYPE.
When used in combination with O_CREAT, either the regular file is
created, or if the path already exists, it is opened if it's a regular
file. Otherwise, -EFTYPE is returned.
When OPENAT2_REGULAR is combined with O_DIRECTORY, -EINVAL is returned
as it doesn't make sense to open a path that is both a directory and a
regular file.
The UAPI bit lives in the upper 32 bits of open_how::flags
(((__u64)1 << 32)) so that open(2) and openat(2) -- whose @flags
argument is a C int -- cannot physically express it. This is a
structural guarantee, not a runtime mask: the bit is unrepresentable in
32 bits.
Because the rest of the VFS open path narrows to 32 bits in several
places (op->open_flag, f->f_flags, the unsigned open_flag argument of
i_op->atomic_open()), build_open_flags() translates OPENAT2_REGULAR
into a kernel-internal lower-32-bit carrier __O_REGULAR (bit 4, unused
as an O_* on every architecture) before the assignment to op->open_flag.
__O_REGULAR then rides through the existing channels exactly like
__FMODE_EXEC. do_dentry_open() strips it so it cannot leak back to
userspace via fcntl(F_GETFL).
Four BUILD_BUG_ON_MSG() invariants in build_open_flags() prevent any
future bit collision or accidental low-32 redefinition:
- VALID_OPEN_FLAGS fits in 32 bits.
- OPENAT2_REGULAR lives in the upper 32 bits.
- OPENAT2_REGULAR does not alias any open()/openat() flag.
- __O_REGULAR does not alias any user-visible flag.
[1]: https://uapi-group.org/kernel-features/#ability-to-only-open-regular-files
Christian Brauner <brauner@kernel.org> says:
Move OPENAT2_REGULAR to the upper 32 bits of open_how::flags with a
kernel-internal __O_REGULAR carrier so that open(2)/openat(2) cannot
encode the flag; add BUILD_BUG_ON_MSG() invariants and register
__O_REGULAR in the fcntl_init() allocation-uniqueness BUILD_BUG_ON()
(bit count 21 -> 22).

gfs2_qd_dealloc(), called as an RCU callback from gfs2_qd_dispose(),
accesses the superblock object sdp through qd->qd_sbd after freeing qd.
It does so to decrement sd_quota_count and wake up sd_kill_wait.
However, by the time the RCU callback runs, gfs2_put_super() may have
already freed sdp via free_sbd(). This can happen when
gfs2_quota_cleanup() is called during unmount: it disposes of quota
objects via call_rcu() and then waits on sd_kill_wait with a 60-second
timeout. If the timeout expires, or if gfs2_gl_hash_clear() triggers
additional qd_put() calls that schedule more RCU callbacks after the
wait completes, gfs2_put_super() will proceed to free the superblock
while RCU callbacks referencing it are still pending.
Add an rcu_barrier() before free_sbd() in gfs2_put_super() to ensure
all pending RCU callbacks (including gfs2_qd_dealloc) have completed
before the superblock is freed.

gfs2_quota_init() checks for duplicate quota_change IDs while holding
qd_lock and the quota hash bucket bitlock. That path used
gfs2_qd_search_bucket(), which takes a lockref reference via
lockref_get_not_dead().
On PREEMPT_RT this may sleep, which is not allowed under the bucket
bitlock, triggering "sleeping function called from invalid context".
Use a no-ref bucket lookup in this path, then continue duplicate
handling without taking a lockref there.
Refactor gfs2_qd_search_bucket() to build on top of the no-ref helper
so lookup traversal stays in one place.

When flushing out outstanding glock work during an unmount, gfs2_log_flush()
can be called when sdp->sd_jdesc has already been deallocated and sdp->sd_jdesc
is NULL. Commit 35264909e9d1 ("gfs2: Fix NULL pointer dereference in
gfs2_log_flush") added a check for that to gfs2_log_flush() itself, but it
missed the sdp->sd_jdesc dereference in gfs2_log_release(). Fix that.

In gfs2_dinode_in(), only allow directories to have the GFS2_DIF_EXHASH
flag set. This will prevent other parts of the code from treating
regular inodes as directories based on the presence of that flag.
In sweep_bh_for_rgrps() and __gfs2_free_blocks(), check if the
GFS2_DIF_EXHASH flag is set instead of checking if i_depth is non-zero.
This matches what the directory code does. (The i_depth checks were
introduced in commit 6d3117b412951 ("GFS2: Wipe directory hash table
metadata when deallocating a directory").)

When a withdraw occurs in gfs2_log_flush() and we are left with an unsubmitted
bio, fail that bio. Otherwise, the bh's in that bio will remain locked and
gfs2_evict_inode() -> truncate_inode_pages() -> gfs2_invalidate_folio() ->
gfs2_discard() will hang trying to discard the locked bh's.
In addition, when gfs2_log_flush() fails to submit a new transaction, unpin the
buffers in the failing transaction like gfs2_remove_from_journal() does. If
any of the bd's are on the ail2 list, leave them there and do_withdraw() ->
gfs2_withdraw_glocks() -> inode_go_inval() -> truncate_inode_pages() ->
gfs2_invalidate_folio() -> gfs2_discard() will remove them. They will be freed
in gfs2_release_folio().

Function gfs2_logd() calls the log flushing functions gfs2_ail1_start(),
gfs2_ail1_wait(), and gfs2_ail1_empty() without holding sdp->sd_log_flush_lock,
but these functions require exclusion against concurrent transactions.
To fix that, add a non-locking __gfs2_log_flush() function. Then, in
gfs2_logd(), take sdp->sd_log_flush_lock before calling the above mentioned log
flushing functions and __gfs2_log_flush().

When a withdrawn filesystem's inodes are being evicted, the address spaces of
those inodes still need to be truncated but we can no longer start new
transactions. We still don't want gfs2_invalidate_folio() to race with
gfs2_log_flush(), so take a read lock on sdp->sd_log_flush_lock in that case.
(It may not be obvious, but gfs2_invalidate_folio() is a jdata-only address
space operation.)

The locking in gfs2_trans_add_data() and gfs2_trans_add_meta() doesn't
follow the usual coding pattern of checking bh->b_private under lock,
allocating a new bufdata object with the locks dropped, and re-checking
once the lock has been reacquired. Both functions set bh->b_private
without holding the buffer lock. Fix that.
Also, in gfs2_trans_add_meta(), taking the folio lock during the
allocation doesn't actually do anything useful.

Maintaining a modular IPv6 stack offers image size savings for specific
setups, this benefit is outweighed by the architectural burden it
imposes on the subsystems on implementation and maintenance. Therefore,
drop it.
Change CONFIG_IPV6 from tristate to bool. Remove all Kconfig
dependencies across the tree that explicitly checked for IPV6=m. In
addition, remove MODULE_DESCRIPTION(), MODULE_ALIAS(), MODULE_AUTHOR()
and MODULE_LICENSE().
This is also replacing module_init() by device_initcall(). It is not
possible to use fs_initcall() as IPv4 does because that creates a race
condition on IPv6 addrconf.
Finally, modify the default configs from CONFIG_IPV6=m to CONFIG_IPV6=y
except for m68k as according to the bloat-o-meter the image is
increasing by 330KB~ and that isn't acceptable. Instead, disable IPv6 on
this architecture by default. This is aligned with m68k RAM requirements
and recommendations [1].

It turns out that for some workloads, the fix in commit b74cd55aa9a9d
("gfs2: low-memory forced flush fixes") causes the number of forced log
flushes to increase to a degree that the overall filesystem performance
drops significantly. Address that by forcing a log flush only when
gfs2_writepages cannot make any progress rather than when it cannot make
"enough" progress.

When gfs2_evict_inode() is called on an inode with unwritten data in the
page cache, the page cache needs to be written before it can be
truncated. This doesn't always happen. Fix that by changing
gfs2_evict_inode() to always either call evict_linked_inode() or
evict_unlinked_inode().
Inside evict_unlinked_inode(), first check if the inode is dirty. If it
is, make sure the inode glock is held and write back the data and
metadata. If it isn't, skip those steps.
Also, make sure that gfs2_evict_inode() calls gfs2_evict_inode() and
evict_unlinked_inode() only if ip->i_gl is not NULL; this avoids
unnecessary complications there.
