2026-08-06drm/sun4i: hdmi-phy: Fix H6 8-bit MPLL config at 594 MHzJernej Skrabec
The 8-bit entry of the last MPLL row (594 MHz) doesn't lock reliably on H6. 4K@60 RGB/YUV444, which is the mode that reaches this entry, doesn't come up. Align the value with the vendor driver. Other entries are left alone, they are used by lower pixel clocks which work fine. Tested with 4K@60 on a LG TV. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: Drop node references while building component listJernej Skrabec
Two references are leaked every time the display pipeline is walked: the output port node in sun4i_drv_traverse_endpoints(), which was never released since the driver was introduced, and each node taken out of the endpoint fifo in sun4i_drv_probe(), which stopped being released when the fifo was introduced. The latter is still safe to drop right after processing, since drm_of_component_match_add() takes its own reference. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: crtc: Propagate layer initialization errorJernej Skrabec
sun4i_crtc_init() returns plain NULL when layer initialization fails, while all its other error paths return an error pointer. The only caller, sun4i_tcon_bind(), checks the result with IS_ERR() and happily continues with tcon->crtc set to NULL. sun4i_rgb_init() and sun4i_lvds_init() then dereference it in drm_crtc_mask(), which oopses. Return the error pointer instead. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: hdmi: Don't leak sync polarity bits into packet controlJernej Skrabec
sun4i_hdmi_enable() keeps using the same variable after it programmed the video timing polarity register with it. The leftover TX_CLK, HSYNC and VSYNC bits are then ORed into the packet control register, where each nibble selects the packet type sent in one slot. As a result, slot 0 selects packet type 3 instead of the AVI infoframe whenever the mode has positive HSYNC polarity, and the TX_CLK bits set nibbles which the driver never programs. Assign the packet types instead of ORing them into the stale value. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: tcon: Set output mux for DSI and LVDSJernej Skrabec
DSI and LVDS skip output mux setup, so TCON TOP cannot route the selected mixer. Configure them like other channel 0 outputs. In practice this matters for D1, where channel 0 TCONs are fed through TCON TOP. The remaining set_mux implementations only handle TMDS and return an error for other encoder types, as before. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: tcon-top: Keep mixer routes distinctJernej Skrabec
Both mixer selectors reset to TCON 0. Selecting the same TCON for both mixers causes black or corrupted output. When a route would collide, park the other mixer on another described TCON, or an unused selector if none exists. Since the TCON index is now used as a shift, also reject negative values. Tested on Orange Pi 3 with TCON_LCD0 and TCON_TV0. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: vi scaler: Restore opaque alpha in video modesJernej Skrabec
The DE3 mixer initialization clears the entire mixer register space. This also clears VSU_GLOBAL_ALPHA, despite its hardware reset value being 0xff. The VI scaler uses Video Normal mode for subsampled YUV formats. In this mode, VSU_GLOBAL_ALPHA provides the scaler output alpha. Leaving the register at zero causes the scaler to produce fully transparent output. Set VSU_GLOBAL_ALPHA to 0xff whenever configuring a DE3 or newer VI scaler. The register is ignored in UI scaling mode. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: Fix V3s YUV scanline sizeJernej Skrabec
The VI scaler line buffer on V3s can hold 1024 pixels for subsampled formats, not 2048 as currently claimed. Since coarse horizontal scaling is engaged only once the source width exceeds that limit, YUV layers wider than 1024 pixels are passed to the scaler unchanged and the output is corrupted. Use the value from the vendor driver. 2026-08-06drm/sun4i: framebuffer: Set mode_config.normalize_zposChen-Yu Tsai
Back when support for zpos was added in commit 47a05f4a68f9 ("drm/sun4i: backend: Add support for zpos"), a custom atomic_check callback was also added in commit b8f1230dd3bf ("drm/sun4i: framebuffer: Add a custom atomic_check") to have a place to call drm_atomic_normalize_zpos(). Commit 49efffc7fbd4 ("drm: Add drm_mode_config->normalize_zpos boolean") added drm_atomic_normalize_zpos() to the standard atomic_check function. Set mode_config.normalize_zpos and drop the custom atomic_check implementation, which at this point is just a simplified copy of the standard one. The standard one also checks whether async updates are valid and updates the self refresh state, but neither feature is supported by this driver. 2026-07-20drm/panel: of_drm_find_panel() return a counted referenceAlbert Esteve
Callers of of_drm_find_panel() and drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() receive a pointer with no reference held, creating a window where the panel device can be unregistered and freed between the lookup and first use (e.g., drm_panel_prepare()). Fix the lookup function by acquiring a reference with drm_panel_get() before returning, under panel_lock. Callers are now responsible for calling drm_panel_put() when they no longer need the pointer. For bridge drivers that immediately wrap the panel in a panel_bridge (which acquires its own reference), release the lookup reference right after the bridge creation call. For analogix-anx6345, which stores the panel for direct use, release the reference in the i2c remove path. For platform drivers using analogix_dp_core with a component lifecycle (exynos_dp, rockchip analogix_dp), release the lookup reference in the platform remove() function. The panel_bridge created during bind() holds a separate reference that devm cleanup releases after remove() returns. Also fix devm_drm_of_get_bridge() and drmm_of_get_bridge() in bridge/panel.c itself, update a second batch of drivers calling of_drm_find_panel() or drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() to release the lookup reference after wrapping the panel in a bridge, and handle the cases where a panel is found but cannot be used, dropping the reference immediately in those paths. 2026-07-07drm/sun4i: fix refcount leak in sun4i_backend_init_sat()Wentao Liang
When sun4i_backend_init_sat() calls reset_control_deassert() it increments the deassert_count of the reset controller, and must pair that with a reset_control_assert() call to decrement it. In the error path where clk_prepare_enable() fails, the function returns immediately without calling reset_control_assert(), leaking the reference count. Other error paths, like the devm_clk_get() failure, correctly jump to the err_assert_reset label which performs the missing assert. Fix the leak by using the existing err_assert_reset label in the clk_prepare_enable error path instead of returning directly. 2026-05-29drm/hdmi: Rename __drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_reset()Maxime Ripard
__drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_reset() is typically used to initialize a newly allocated drm_connector_state when the connector is using the HDMI helpers, and is being called by the drm_connector_funcs.reset implementation. Since we want to consolidate DRM objects state allocation around the atomic_create_state callback that will only allocate and initialize a new drm_connector_state instance, we will need to call __drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_reset() from both the reset and atomic_create hooks. To avoid any confusion, we can thus rename __drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_reset() to __drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_state_init(). 2026-05-04drm: Rename struct drm_atomic_state to drm_atomic_commitMaxime Ripard
The KMS framework uses two slightly different definitions for the state concept. For a given object (plane, CRTC, encoder, etc., so drm_$OBJECT_state), the state is the entire state of that object. However, at the device level, drm_atomic_state refers to a state update for a limited number of objects. Thus, drm_atomic_state isn't the entire device state, but only the full state of some objects in that device. This has been an endless source of confusion and thus bugs. We can rename the drm_atomic_state structure to drm_atomic_commit to make it less confusing. 2026-03-24drm/display: hdmi: Use drm_output_color_format instead of hdmi_colorspaceMaxime Ripard
The hdmi_colorspace enum was defined to represent the colorspace value of the HDMI infoframes. It was later used by some HDMI drivers to express the output format they should be setting up. During the introduction of the HDMI helpers, it then was used to represent it in the drm_connector_hdmi_state structure. However, it's always been somewhat redundant with the DRM_COLOR_FORMAT_* defines, and now with the drm_output_color_format enum. Let's consolidate around drm_output_color_format in drm_connector_hdmi_state to facilitate the current effort to provide a global output format selection mechanism. 2026-03-23drm/sun4i: Use backend/mixer as dedicated DMA deviceChen-Yu Tsai
The sun4i DRM driver deals with DMA constraints in a peculiar way. Instead of using the actual DMA device in various helpers, it justs reconfigures the DMA constraints of the virtual display device using the DMA device's device tree node by calling of_dma_configure(). Turns out of_dma_configure() should only be called from bus code. Lately this also triggers a big warning through of_iommu_configure() and ultimately __iommu_probe_device(): late IOMMU probe at driver bind, something fishy here! Now that the GEM DMA helpers have proper support for allocating and mapping buffers with a dedicated DMA device, switch over to it as the proper solution. The mixer change was tested on a Pine H64 model B. The backend change was only compile tested. Though I don't expect any issues, help testing on an older device would be appreciated. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) Havign a single set of InfoFrame callbacks doesn't provide enough information to the DRM framework about the InfoFrame types that are actually supported. Also it's not really future-proof: it provides a way to program only a single Vendor-Specific frame, however we might need to support multiple VSIs at the same time (e.g. HDMI vs HDMI Forum VSIs). On DE2 and DE3, UI scalers are located right after VI scalers. So in order to calculate proper UI scaler base address, number of VI scalers must be known. In practice, it is same as number of VI channels, but it doesn't need to be. Let's make a quirk for this number. Code for configuring channels and associated functions won't have access to vi_num quirk anymore after rework for independent planes. This info won't be available anymore in future to VI layer driver because of DE33 way of allocating planes from same pool to different mixers. Now that channel base calculation is straightforward, let's update VI scaler base calculation to be simpler. At the same time, also introduce macro to avoid magic numbers. Note, reason why current magic value and new macro value isn't the same is because sun8i_channel_base() already introduces offset to channel registers. Previous value is just the difference to VI scaler registers. However, new code calculates scaler base from channel base. This is also easier to understand when looking into BSP driver. Macro value can be easily found whereas old diff value was not.
