When userspace makes plane zpos changes of two crtc within one commit, at the .atomic_begin stage, crtcN will never receive the "layer change cfg done" event of crtcM because crtcM has not yet written "cfgdone". So only wait when there is pending cfgdone bits to avoid long timeout. According to the implementation of read_poll_timeout_atomic, if the delay time is 0, it will only use a simple loop based on timeout_us to decrement the count. Therefore, the final timeout time will differ significantly from the set timeout time. So, here we set a specific delay time to ensure that the calculation of the timeout duration is accurate. calculate used layers When there are multiple Video Ports, and only one of them is working (for example, VP1 is working while VP0 is not), in this case, the win_mask of VP0 is 0. However, we have already set the port mux for VP0 according to vp0->nlayers, and at the same time, in the OVL_LAYER_SEL register, there are windows will also be assigned to layers which will map to the inactive VPs. In this situation, vp0->win_mask is zero as it now working, it is more reliable to calculate the used layers based on the configuration of the OVL_LAYER_SEL register. Note: as the configuration of OVL_LAYER_SEL is take effect when the vsync is come, so we use the value backup in vop2->old_layer_sel instead of read OVL_LAYER_SEL directly. Use VOP for DMA operations performed by DRM core. Rockchip DRM driver is backed by a virtual device that isn't IOMMU-capable, while VOP is the actual display controller device backed by IOMMU. Fixes "swiotlb buffer is full" warning messages originated from GEM prime code paths. Note, that backporting is non-trivial as this depends on commit 143ec8d3f9396 ("drm/prime: Support dedicated DMA device for dma-buf imports"), which landed in v6.16 and commit 421be3ee36a4 ("drm/rockchip: Refactor IOMMU initialisation"), which landed in v5.19. Since both RK3576 and RK3588 SoCs are capable of handling 10 bpc color depth, introduce a pair of new helpers to program the necessary registers, as well as passing bpc at PHY configuration level. Note max_bpc is unconditionally set to 10 before initializing the QP bridge library, as there is no need to adjust it dynamically, i.e. per SoC variant, for now. While setting up .enc_init() callbacks of rockchip_hdmi_qp_ctrl_ops, also replace the unnecessary whitespace chars before .irq_callback() assignments. 2025-11-14drm/rockchip: dw_hdmi_qp: Switch to phy_configure()Cristian Ciocaltea
Stop relying on phy_set_bus_width() based workaround to setup the TMDS character rate and, instead, use the recently introduced HDMI PHY configuration API. This is also a prerequisite to enable high color depth and FRL support. Additionally, move the logic to ->atomic_check() callback where the current mode rate is already provided by the connector state. As a matter of fact this is actually necessary to ensure the link rate is configured before VOP2 attempts to use the PHY PLL as a DCLK source in vop2_crtc_atomic_enable(). The rationale is to restrict any changes of the PHY rate via CCF and, instead, prefer the PHY configuration API for this purpose. When making use of the HDMI PHY PLL as a VOP2 DCLK source, it's output rate does normally match the mode clock. But this is only applicable for default color depth of 8 bpc. For higher depths, the output clock is further divided by the hardware according to the formula: output rate = PHY PLL rate * 8 / bpc Hence there is no need for VOP2 to compensate for bpc when adjusting DCLK, but it is required to do so when computing its maximum operating frequency. Take color depth into consideration before deciding to switch DCLK source. 2025-11-14drm/rockchip: dw_hdmi_qp: Fixup usage of enable_gpio member in main structCristian Ciocaltea
The name of the enable_gpio member in struct rockchip_hdmi_qp is too generic, as initially "borrowed" from downstream BSP code. Moreover, this hasn't been really in use so far, since there is neither a DT providing an "enable-gpios" property to any of the "hdmi" nodes, nor a binding documenting it. The actual purpose of this GPIO line is to control the voltage bias for the HDMI TX data lines when switching between TMDS and FRL operating modes. A previous patch introduced the "frl-enable-gpios" property of the RK3588 HDMI TX Controller binding, hence pass the updated string to devm_gpiod_get_optional(), rename the struct member accordingly and set it to a low level. 2025-10-20drm/rockchip: Declare framebuffer width/height boundsDaniel Stone
The VOP2 has limitations on its input and output sizes. The clipped display region must be at least 4px in each dimension for both framebuffer source and plane destination, and the clipped source region must be no greater than a per-version limit. It is never valid for VOP2 to have a framebuffer which is less than four pixels in either dimension, so declare that as our min width/height, enforced by AddFB failing if the user tries. It can theoretically be valid to have a single large framebuffer of which only certain clipped regions are shown, but this is a very uncommon case. Declaring to userspace that the framebuffer's maximum width and height is the maximum source clip helps it make better decisions as to which mode to use, instead of trying unsupported sizes and having to fall back. The error handling in dw_hdmi_qp_rockchip_bind() is quite inconsistent, i.e. in some cases the error code is not included in the message, while in some other cases there is no check for -EPROBE_DEFER. Since this is part of the probe path, address the aforementioned issues by switching to dev_err_probe(), which also reduces the code a bit. The vop2_plane_atomic_check() function incorrectly checks drm_rect_width(dest) twice instead of verifying both width and height. Fix the second condition to use drm_rect_height(dest) so that invalid destination rectangles with height < 4 are correctly rejected. The era of hand-rolled HIWORD_UPDATE macros is over, at least for those drivers that use constant masks. Remove this driver's very own HIWORD_UPDATE macro, and replace all instances of it with equivalent instantiations of FIELD_PREP_WM16 or FIELD_PREP_WM16_CONST, depending on whether it's in an initializer. This gives us better error checking, and a centrally agreed upon signature for this macro, to ease in code comprehension. Because FIELD_PREP_WM16/FIELD_PREP_WM16_CONST shifts the value to the mask (like FIELD_PREP et al do), a lot of macro instantiations get easier to read. This was tested on an RK3568 ODROID M1, as well as an RK3399 ROCKPro64. The era of hand-rolled HIWORD_UPDATE macros is over, at least for those drivers that use constant masks. The inno-hdmi driver's own HIWORD_UPDATE macro is instantiated only twice. Remove it, and replace its uses with FIELD_PREP_WM16. Since FIELD_PREP_WM16 shifts the value for us, we replace using the mask as the value by simply using 1 instead. With the new FIELD_PREP_WM16 macro, we gain better error checking and a central shared definition. This has been compile-tested only as I lack hardware this old, but the change is trivial enough that I am fairly certain it's equivalent. While at it, disambiguate the GRF write to SOC_CON7 by splitting the definition into the individual bitflags. This is done because FIELD_PREP_WM16 shifts the value for us according to the mask, so writing the mask to itself to enable two bits is no longer something that can be done. It should also not be done anyway because it hides the true meaning of those two individual bit flags. HDMI output with this patch has been tested on both RK3588 and RK3576. On the former, with both present HDMI connectors. This gives us better error checking, which already saved me some trouble during this refactor. The driver's HIWORD_UPDATE macro doesn't shift up the value, but expects a pre-shifted value. Meanwhile, FIELD_PREP_WM16 and FIELD_PREP_WM16_CONST will shift the value for us, based on the given mask. So a few things that used to be a HIWORD_UPDATE(VERY_LONG_FOO, VERY_LONG_FOO) are now a somewhat more pleasant FIELD_PREP_WM16(VERY_LONG_FOO, 1). There are some non-trivial refactors here. A few literals needed a UL suffix added to stop them from unintentionally overflowing as a signed long. To make sure all of these cases are caught, and not just the ones where the FIELD_PREP_WM16* macros use such a value as a mask, just mark every literal that's used as a mask as unsigned. Non-contiguous masks also have to be split into multiple FIELD_PREP_WM16* instances, as the macro's checks and shifting logic rely on contiguous masks. This is compile-tested only. Make video port registers nonvolatile. As DSP_CTRL register is written to twice due to gamma LUT enable bit which is set outside of the main DSP_CTRL initialization within atomic_enable (for rk356x case it is also necessary to always disable gamma LUT before writing a new LUT) there is a chance that DSP_CTRL value read-out in gamma LUT init/update code is not the one which was written by the preceding DSP_CTRL initialization code within atomic_enable. This might result in misconfigured DSP_CTRL which leads to no visual output[1]. Since DSP_CTRL write takes effect after VSYNC[1] the issue is not always present. When tested on Pinetab2 with kernel 6.14 it happenes only when DRM is compiled as a module[1]. In order to confirm that it is a timing issue I inserted 18ms udelay before vop2_crtc_atomic_try_set_gamma in atomic enable and compiled DRM as module - this has also fixed the issue. Decouple drm_get_format_info() from struct drm_mode_fb_cmd2 and just pass the pixel format+modifier combo in by hand. We may want to use drm_get_format_info() outside of the normal addfb paths where we won't have a struct drm_mode_fb_cmd2, and creating a temporary one just for this seems silly. 2025-07-14drm/bridge: Pass down connector to drm bridge detect hookAndy Yan
In some application scenarios, we hope to get the corresponding connector when the bridge's detect hook is invoked. In most cases, we can get the connector by drm_atomic_get_connector_for_encoder if the encoder attached to the bridge is enabled, however there will still be some scenarios where the detect hook of the bridge is called but the corresponding encoder has not been enabled yet. For instance, this occurs when the device is hot plug in for the first time. Since the call to bridge's detect is initiated by the connector, passing down the corresponding connector directly will make things simpler.
