2026-07-20drm/panel: of_drm_find_panel() return a counted referenceAlbert Esteve
Callers of of_drm_find_panel() and drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() receive a pointer with no reference held, creating a window where the panel device can be unregistered and freed between the lookup and first use (e.g., drm_panel_prepare()). Fix the lookup function by acquiring a reference with drm_panel_get() before returning, under panel_lock. Callers are now responsible for calling drm_panel_put() when they no longer need the pointer. For bridge drivers that immediately wrap the panel in a panel_bridge (which acquires its own reference), release the lookup reference right after the bridge creation call. For analogix-anx6345, which stores the panel for direct use, release the reference in the i2c remove path. For platform drivers using analogix_dp_core with a component lifecycle (exynos_dp, rockchip analogix_dp), release the lookup reference in the platform remove() function. The panel_bridge created during bind() holds a separate reference that devm cleanup releases after remove() returns. Also fix devm_drm_of_get_bridge() and drmm_of_get_bridge() in bridge/panel.c itself, update a second batch of drivers calling of_drm_find_panel() or drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() to release the lookup reference after wrapping the panel in a bridge, and handle the cases where a panel is found but cannot be used, dropping the reference immediately in those paths. The RZ/T2H (R9A09G077) SoC includes a DU with a DPI interface, supporting resolutions up to WXGA with two RPFs for layer blending. Unlike earlier RZ/G2L SoCs, RZ/T2H requires explicit assertion of a DPI output-enable signal (DU_MCR0_DPI_EN) during CRTC startup. 2026-05-22drm: renesas: rz-du: Move mode_valid logic to per-SoC clock limitsLad Prabhakar
Move pixel clock validation from a fixed encoder check to per SoC constraints stored in rzg2l_du_device_info. Pixel clock limits differ across SoCs in the RZ DU family and cannot be expressed by a single shared rule. For example, RZ/G2UL and RZ/G2L limit the DPAD0 pixel clock to a narrow window, while other SoCs such as RZ/T2H require a wider operating range. Add mode_clock_min and mode_clock_max fields to rzg2l_du_device_info to describe the supported pixel clock range for each SoC. Update rzg2l_du_encoder_mode_valid() to check these bounds when evaluating DPAD0 outputs, returning MODE_CLOCK_LOW when the pixel clock falls below mode_clock_min and MODE_CLOCK_HIGH when it exceeds mode_clock_max. Populate the pixel clock limits for both the RZ/G2UL (R9A07G043U) and RZ/G2L (R9A07G044) variants to a minimum of 20875 kHz and a maximum of 83500 kHz. Update the DU CRTC initialisation to request the reset control using devm_reset_control_get_optional_shared(). On RZ/T2H SoCs the DU block does not expose a reset line, and treating the reset as mandatory prevents the driver from probing on those platforms. 2026-05-04drm: Rename struct drm_atomic_state to drm_atomic_commitMaxime Ripard
The KMS framework uses two slightly different definitions for the state concept. For a given object (plane, CRTC, encoder, etc., so drm_$OBJECT_state), the state is the entire state of that object. However, at the device level, drm_atomic_state refers to a state update for a limited number of objects. Thus, drm_atomic_state isn't the entire device state, but only the full state of some objects in that device. This has been an endless source of confusion and thus bugs. We can rename the drm_atomic_state structure to drm_atomic_commit to make it less confusing. drm_connector_attach_encoder() shmob_drm_connector_create() can init the connector in two ways, based on the 'if (sdev->pdata)': 1. manually in shmob_drm_connector_create(), or 2. delegating to drm_bridge_connector_init() Whichever branch is taken, drm_connector_attach_encoder() is called immediately after to attach the connector to the encoder. Now drm_bridge_connector_init() calls drm_connector_attach_encoder() on the connector so it is not needed anymore in case 2 and should be removed, but it is still needed in case 1. Move drm_connector_attach_encoder() from the common path to inside shmob_drm_connector_create() in order to get back to a single drm_connector_attach_encoder() in both cases. 2026-04-23drm: rcar-du: Fix crash when no CMM is availableLaurent Pinchart
Commit 3bce3fdd1ff2 ("drm: rcar-du: Don't leak device_link to CMM") refactored CMM handling, and introduced an incorrect test for CMM availability. When no CMM is present, the rcrtc->cmm field is NULL, testing rcrtc->cmm->dev causes a NULL pointer dereference. This slipped through testing as all tests were run with the CMM present. Fix this issue by correctly testing for rcrtc->cmm. So: * in the 'else' case a panel_bridge is not added and bridge is found: use of_drm_find_and_get_bridge() to get a reference to the found bridge * in the 'then' case a panel_bridge is found using a devm function which already takes a refcount and will put it on removal, but we need to take another so the following code in this function always get exactly one reference that it needs to put In order to put the reference, add the needed drm_bridge_put() calls in the existing cleanup function. of_drm_find_bridge() is deprecated. Move to its replacement of_drm_find_and_get_bridge() which gets a bridge reference, and ensure it is put when done. This is made somewhat simpler by the fact that 'bridge' is a local variable. However we need to handle both branches of the main if(). In the 'else' case, just switch to of_drm_find_and_get_bridge() to ensure the bridge is not freed while in use in the function tail (drm_bridge_attach() mainly). In the 'then' case, devm_drm_panel_bridge_add_typed() already increments the refcount using devres which ties the bridge allocation lifetime to the device lifetime, so we would not need to do anything. However to have the same behaviour in both branches take an additional reference here, so that the bridge needs to be put whichever branch is taken without more complicated logic. The RZ/G2L hardware manual (Rev. 1.50, May 2025), Section 34.4.2.1, requires deasserting the CMN_RSTB signal after setting the Link registers. Move the reset_control_deassert() call from rzg2l_mipi_dsi_dphy_init() to rzg2l_mipi_dsi_startup(), placing it after the Link register writes. This reset signal is optional for RZ/V2H SoCs, so add a NULL check. Drop the unused ret variable from rzg2l_mipi_dsi_dphy_init(). The CMN_RSTB signal is not required for reading PHY registers in the probe. Move reset_control_assert() from rzg2l_mipi_dsi_dphy_exit() to rzg2l_mipi_dsi_stop(), placing it before the dphy_exit() call. Since this reset signal is optional for RZ/V2H, the call is a no-op on that SoC. Commit 3bce3fdd1ff2 ("drm: rcar-du: Don't leak device_link to CMM") refactored CMM handling, and introduced an incorrect test for CMM availability. When no CMM is present, the rcrtc->cmm field is NULL, testing rcrtc->cmm->dev causes a NULL pointer dereference. This slipped through testing as all tests were run with the CMM present. Fix this issue by correctly testing for rcrtc->cmm. This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) Currently, in rcar_mipi_dsi_parameters_calc(), the VCLK divider is stored in setup_info structure as BIT(divider). The rcar_mipi_dsi_parameters_calc() is called at the early beginning of rcar_mipi_dsi_startup() function. Later, in the same rcar_mipi_dsi_startup() function, the stored BIT(divider) value is passed to __ffs() to calculate back the divider out of the value again. Factor out VCLK divider calculation into rcar_mipi_dsi_vclk_divider() function and call the function from both rcar_mipi_dsi_parameters_calc() and rcar_mipi_dsi_startup() to avoid this back and forth BIT() and _ffs() and avoid unnecessarily storing the divider value in setup_info at all. This rework has a slight side-effect, in that it should allow the compiler to better evaluate the code and avoid compiler warnings about variable value overflows, which can never happen. Add MIPI DSI support for the Renesas RZ/V2H(P) SoC. Compared to the RZ/G2L family, the RZ/V2H(P) requires dedicated D-PHY PLL programming, different clock configuration, and additional timing parameter handling. The driver introduces lookup tables and helpers for D-PHY timings (TCLK*, THS*, TLPX, and ULPS exit) as specified in the RZ/V2H(P) hardware manual. ULPS exit timing depends on the LPCLK rate and is now handled explicitly. The implementation also adds support for 16 bpp RGB format, updates the clock setup path to use the RZ/V2H PLL divider limits, and provides new .dphy_init, .dphy_conf_clks, and .dphy_startup_late_init callbacks to match the RZ/V2H sequence. With these changes, the RZ/V2H(P) can operate the MIPI DSI interface in compliance with its hardware specification while retaining support for existing RZ/G2L platforms. Add LPCLK clock handling to the RZ/G2L MIPI DSI driver to support proper DSI timing parameter configuration on RZ/V2H SoCs. While lpclk is present on both RZ/G2L and RZ/V2H SoCs, the RZ/V2H SoC specifically uses the lpclk rate to configure the DSI timing parameter ULPSEXIT. Introduce a new lpclk field in the rzg2l_mipi_dsi structure and acquire the "lpclk" clock during probe to enable lpclk rate-based timing calculations on RZ/V2H while maintaining compatibility with RZ/G2L.
