2026-07-22drm/gma500: return errors from Oaktrail HDMI I2C readsPengpeng Hou
xfer_read() waits for the HDMI I2C transaction to reach I2C_TRANSACTION_DONE, but it ignores both timeout and signal returns from wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout(). If the interrupt never advances the transaction state, the loop can wait forever. Return -ETIMEDOUT when the completion wait expires, propagate interrupted waits, and make the I2C master_xfer callback return the first transfer error instead of reporting a successful message count. 2026-06-17drm: Consistently define pci_device_ids using named initializersUwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub)
The .driver_data member of the various struct pci_device_id arrays were initialized by list expressions. This isn't easily readable if you're not into PCI. Using the PCI_DEVICE macro and named initializers is more explicit and thus easier to parse. Also skip explicit assignments of 0 (which the compiler then takes care of). This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id arrays. Tested on x86 and arm64. v2: - gma500: fix coding style in cast Signed-off-by: Uwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub) <u.kleine-koenig@baylibre.com> Reviewed-by: Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.r.jakobsson@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260504150537.2136760-2-u.kleine-koenig@baylibre.com

2026-05-13drm/gma500/oaktrail_lvds: fix i2c adapter leaks on initJohan Hovold
The LVDS init code looks up an I2C adapter using i2c_get_adapter() and tries to read the EDID before falling back to allocating and registering its own adapter. Make sure to drop the references taken by i2c_get_adapter() when falling back to allocating an adapter as well as on late errors to allow the looked up adapter to be deregistered. 2026-05-13drm/gma500/oaktrail_lvds: fix hang on init failureJohan Hovold
The LVDS init code looks up an I2C adapter using i2c_get_adapter() and tries to read the EDID before falling back to allocating and registering its own adapter. The error handling does not separate these cases so on a late init failure it will try to deregister and free also an adapter that had previously been registered. Since i2c_get_adapter() takes another reference to the adapter, deregistration hangs indefinitely while waiting for the reference to be released. Fix this by only destroying adapters allocated during LVDS init on errors. 2026-05-06treewide: Explicitly include the x86 CPUID headersAhmed S. Darwish
Modify all CPUID call sites which implicitly include any of the CPUID headers to explicitly include them instead. For KVM's reverse_cpuid.h, just include <asm/cpuid/types.h> since it references the CPUID_EAX..EDX symbols without using the CPUID APIs. Note, this allows removing the inclusion of <asm/cpuid/api.h> from within <asm/processor.h> next. That allows the CPUID API headers to include <asm/processor.h> without introducing a circular dependency. Signed-off-by: Ahmed S. Only keep the existing tests for color depth and pitch alignment. v2: - rebase on upstream changes Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.r.jakobsson@gmail.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260206133458.226467-6-tzimmermann@suse.de
2026-03-03drm/gma500: fbdev: Use a DRM client bufferThomas Zimmermann
Replace the internal DRM framebuffer with a DRM client buffer. The client buffer allocates the DRM framebuffer on a file and also uses GEM object handles via the regular ADDFB2 interfaces. This unifies framebuffer allocation for clients in user space and gma500's internal fbdev emulation. Also simplify the clean-up side of the fbdev emulation. Later patches will allow for streamlining gma500's framebuffer code and DRM's fbdev emulation in general. 2026-03-03drm/gma500: fbdev: Calculate buffer geometry with format helpersThomas Zimmermann
Replace the geometry and size calculation in gma500's fbdev emulation with DRM format helpers. This consists of 4CC lookup from the fbdev parameters, format loockup, pitch calculation and size calculation. Then allocate the GEM buffer object for the framebuffer memory from the calculated size. As before, fallback to 16-bit colors if the stolen memory is insufficient for 32-bit colors. But look at the result from psb_gem_create() instead of guessing before the allocation. The new method is more reliable when others allocate from stolen video memory (e.g., cursors). Set up mode_cmd with the calculated values just before allocating the framebuffer. This code will later be replaced with a DRM client buffer. 2026-03-03drm/gma500: fbdev: Set framebuffer size to GEM object sizeThomas Zimmermann
Framebuffer emulation sets the size of the available memory to the value that has been requested. As the allocated GEM buffer object acts as full framebuffer memory, set the size to the value of the actually allocated buffer. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>
2026-02-02Revert "drm/gma500: use drm_crtc_vblank_crtc()"Jani Nikula
This reverts commit d930ffa5d6e8867a290db9c6aad1c62731aeb2c3. According to Thomas, commit d930ffa5d6e8 ("drm/gma500: use drm_crtc_vblank_crtc()") breaks the driver with a NULL-ptr oops on startup. This is because the IRQ initialization in gma_irq_install() now uses CRTCs that are only allocated later in psb_modeset_init(). Stack trace is below. Revert. Go back to the drawing board. 2025-11-25drm/fb-helper: Allocate and release fb_info in single placeThomas Zimmermann
Move the calls to drm_fb_helper_alloc_info() from drivers into a single place in fbdev helpers. Allocates struct fb_info for a new framebuffer device. Then call drm_fb_helper_single_fb_probe() to create an fbdev screen buffer. Also release the instance on errors by calling drm_fb_helper_release_info(). Simplifies the code and fixes the error cleanup for some of the drivers. Regular release of the struct fb_info instance still happens in drm_fb_helper_fini() as before. v2: - remove error rollback in driver implementations (kernel test robot) - initialize info in TTM implementation (kernel test robot) Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Christian König <christian.koenig@amd.com> # radeon Acked-by: Dmitry Baryshkov <dmitry.baryshkov@oss.qualcomm.com> # msm Acked-by: Javier Martinez Canillas <javierm@redhat.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20251027081245.80262-1-tzimmermann@suse.de
2025-11-10drm/gma500: use drm_crtc_vblank_crtc()Jani Nikula
We have drm_crtc_vblank_crtc() to get the struct drm_vblank_crtc pointer for a crtc. Use it instead of poking at dev->vblank[] directly. However, we also need to get the crtc to start with. We could use drm_crtc_from_index(), but refactor to use drm_for_each_crtc() instead. This is all a bit tedious, and perhaps the driver shouldn't be poking at vblank->enabled directly in the first place. But at least hide away the dev->vblank[] access in drm_vblank.c where it belongs. 2025-10-24drm/client: Add client free callback to unprepare fb_helperThomas Zimmermann
Add free callback to struct drm_client_funcs. Invoke function to free the client memory as part of the release process. Implement free for fbdev emulation. Fbdev emulation allocates and prepares client memory in drm_fbdev_client_setup(). The release happens in fb_destroy from struct fb_ops. Multiple implementations of this callback exist in the various drivers that provide an fbdev implementation. Each of them needs to follow the implementation details of the fbdev setup code. Adding a free callback for the client puts the unprepare and release of the fbdev client in a single place. 2025-09-30drm/gma500: Remove unused helper psb_fbdev_fb_setcolreg()Thomas Zimmermann
Remove psb_fbdev_fb_setcolreg(), which hasn't been called in almost a decade. Gma500 commit 4d8d096e9ae8 ("gma500: introduce the framebuffer support code") added the helper psb_fbdev_fb_setcolreg() for setting the fbdev palette via fbdev's fb_setcolreg callback. Later commit 3da6c2f3b730 ("drm/gma500: use DRM_FB_HELPER_DEFAULT_OPS for fb_ops") set several default helpers for fbdev emulation, including fb_setcmap. The fbdev subsystem always prefers fb_setcmap over fb_setcolreg. [1] Hence, the gma500 code is no longer in use and gma500 has been using drm_fb_helper_setcmap() for several years without issues. 2025-09-19drm/gma500: Fix null dereference in hdmi teardownZabelin Nikita
pci_set_drvdata sets the value of pdev->driver_data to NULL, after which the driver_data obtained from the same dev is dereferenced in oaktrail_hdmi_i2c_exit, and the i2c_dev is extracted from it. To prevent this, swap these calls. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Svacer. 2025-09-09drm/gma500: Do not clear framebuffer GEM objects during cleanupThomas Zimmermann
Gma500 unnecessarily clears the framebuffer's GEM-object pointer before calling drm_framebuffer_cleanup(). Remove this code to make gma500 consistent with the rest of the drivers. The change is cosmetic, as drm_framebuffer_cleanup() does not touch the object pointer on gma500. 2025-07-31Merge tag 'mm-stable-2025-07-30-15-25' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton: "As usual, many cleanups. The below blurbiage describes 42 patchsets. 21 of those are partially or fully cleanup work. "cleans up", "cleanup", "maintainability", "rationalizes", etc. I never knew the MM code was so dirty. "mm: ksm: prevent KSM from breaking merging of new VMAs" (Lorenzo Stoakes) addresses an issue with KSM's PR_SET_MEMORY_MERGE mode: newly mapped VMAs were not eligible for merging with existing adjacent VMAs. "mm/damon: introduce DAMON_STAT for simple and practical access monitoring" (SeongJae Park) adds a new kernel module which simplifies the setup and usage of DAMON in production environments. "stop passing a writeback_control to swap/shmem writeout" (Christoph Hellwig) is a cleanup to the writeback code which removes a couple of pointers from struct writeback_control. "drivers/base/node.c: optimization and cleanups" (Donet Tom) contains largely uncorrelated cleanups to the NUMA node setup and management code. "mm: userfaultfd: assorted fixes and cleanups" (Tal Zussman) does some maintenance work on the userfaultfd code. "Readahead tweaks for larger folios" (Ryan Roberts) implements some tuneups for pagecache readahead when it is reading into order>0 folios. "selftests/mm: Tweaks to the cow test" (Mark Brown) provides some cleanups and consistency improvements to the selftests code. "Optimize mremap() for large folios" (Dev Jain) does that. A 37% reduction in execution time was measured in a memset+mremap+munmap microbenchmark. "Remove zero_user()" (Matthew Wilcox) expunges zero_user() in favor of the more modern memzero_page(). "mm/huge_memory: vmf_insert_folio_*() and vmf_insert_pfn_pud() fixes" (David Hildenbrand) addresses some warts which David noticed in the huge page code. These were not known to be causing any issues at this time. "mm/damon: use alloc_migrate_target() for DAMOS_MIGRATE_{HOT,COLD" (SeongJae Park) provides some cleanup and consolidation work in DAMON. "use vm_flags_t consistently" (Lorenzo Stoakes) uses vm_flags_t in places where we were inappropriately using other types. "mm/memfd: Reserve hugetlb folios before allocation" (Vivek Kasireddy) increases the reliability of large page allocation in the memfd code. "mm: Remove pXX_devmap page table bit and pfn_t type" (Alistair Popple) removes several now-unneeded PFN_* flags. "mm/damon: decouple sysfs from core" (SeongJae Park) implememnts some cleanup and maintainability work in the DAMON sysfs layer. "madvise cleanup" (Lorenzo Stoakes) does quite a lot of cleanup/maintenance work in the madvise() code. "madvise anon_name cleanups" (Vlastimil Babka) provides additional cleanups on top or Lorenzo's effort. "Implement numa node notifier" (Oscar Salvador) creates a standalone notifier for NUMA node memory state changes. Previously these were lumped under the more general memory on/offline notifier. "Make MIGRATE_ISOLATE a standalone bit" (Zi Yan) cleans up the pageblock isolation code and fixes a potential issue which doesn't seem to cause any problems in practice. "selftests/damon: add python and drgn based DAMON sysfs functionality tests" (SeongJae Park) adds additional drgn- and python-based DAMON selftests which are more comprehensive than the existing selftest suite. "Misc rework on hugetlb faulting path" (Oscar Salvador) fixes a rather obscure deadlock in the hugetlb fault code and follows that fix with a series of cleanups. "cma: factor out allocation logic from __cma_declare_contiguous_nid" (Mike Rapoport) rationalizes and cleans up the highmem-specific code in the CMA allocator. "mm/migration: rework movable_ops page migration (part 1)" (David Hildenbrand) provides cleanups and future-preparedness to the migration code. "mm/damon: add trace events for auto-tuned monitoring intervals and DAMOS quota" (SeongJae Park) adds some tracepoints to some DAMON auto-tuning code. "mm/damon: fix misc bugs in DAMON modules" (SeongJae Park) does that. "mm/damon: misc cleanups" (SeongJae Park) also does what it claims. "mm: folio_pte_batch() improvements" (David Hildenbrand) cleans up the large folio PTE batching code. "mm/damon/vaddr: Allow interleaving in migrate_{hot,cold} actions" (SeongJae Park) facilitates dynamic alteration of DAMON's inter-node allocation policy. "Remove unmap_and_put_page()" (Vishal Moola) provides a couple of page->folio conversions. "mm: per-node proactive reclaim" (Davidlohr Bueso) implements a per-node control of proactive reclaim - beyond the current memcg-based implementation. "mm/damon: remove damon_callback" (SeongJae Park) replaces the damon_callback interface with a more general and powerful damon_call()+damos_walk() interface. "mm/mremap: permit mremap() move of multiple VMAs" (Lorenzo Stoakes) implements a number of mremap cleanups (of course) in preparation for adding new mremap() functionality: newly permit the remapping of multiple VMAs when the user is specifying MREMAP_FIXED. It still excludes some specialized situations where this cannot be performed reliably. "drop hugetlb_free_pgd_range()" (Anthony Yznaga) switches some sparc hugetlb code over to the generic version and removes the thus-unneeded hugetlb_free_pgd_range(). "mm/damon/sysfs: support periodic and automated stats update" (SeongJae Park) augments the present userspace-requested update of DAMON sysfs monitoring files. Automatic update is now provided, along with a tunable to control the update interval. "Some randome fixes and cleanups to swapfile" (Kemeng Shi) does what is claims. "mm: introduce snapshot_page" (Luiz Capitulino and David Hildenbrand) provides (and uses) a means by which debug-style functions can grab a copy of a pageframe and inspect it locklessly without tripping over the races inherent in operating on the live pageframe directly. "use per-vma locks for /proc/pid/maps reads" (Suren Baghdasaryan) addresses the large contention issues which can be triggered by reads from that procfs file. Latencies are reduced by more than half in some situations. The series also introduces several new selftests for the /proc/pid/maps interface. "__folio_split() clean up" (Zi Yan) cleans up __folio_split()! "Optimize mprotect() for large folios" (Dev Jain) provides some quite large (>3x) speedups to mprotect() when dealing with large folios. "selftests/mm: reuse FORCE_READ to replace "asm volatile("" : "+r" (XXX));" and some cleanup" (wang lian) does some cleanup work in the selftests code. "tools/testing: expand mremap testing" (Lorenzo Stoakes) extends the mremap() selftest in several ways, including adding more checking of Lorenzo's recently added "permit mremap() move of multiple VMAs" feature. "selftests/damon/sysfs.py: test all parameters" (SeongJae Park) extends the DAMON sysfs interface selftest so that it tests all possible user-requested parameters. 2025-07-16drm: Pass pixel_format+modifier directly to drm_get_format_info()Ville Syrjälä
Decouple drm_get_format_info() from struct drm_mode_fb_cmd2 and just pass the pixel format+modifier combo in by hand. We may want to use drm_get_format_info() outside of the normal addfb paths where we won't have a struct drm_mode_fb_cmd2, and creating a temporary one just for this seems silly. 2025-07-09mm: remove remaining uses of PFN_DEVAlistair Popple
PFN_DEV was used by callers of dax_direct_access() to figure out if the returned PFN is associated with a page using pfn_t_has_page() or not. However all DAX PFNs now require an assoicated ZONE_DEVICE page so can assume a page exists. Other users of PFN_DEV were setting it before calling vmf_insert_mixed(). This is unnecessary as it is no longer checked, instead relying on pfn_valid() to determine if there is an associated page or not. 2025-04-23PCI: Add CONFIG_MMU dependencyArnd Bergmann
It turns out that there are no platforms that have PCI but don't have an MMU, so adding a Kconfig dependency on CONFIG_PCI simplifies build testing kernels for those platforms a lot, and avoids a lot of inadvertent build regressions. Add a dependency for CONFIG_PCI and remove all the ones for PCI specific device drivers that are currently marked not having it. There are a few platforms that have an optional MMU, but they usually cannot have PCI at all. The one exception is Coldfire MCF54xx, but this is mainly for historic reasons, and anyone using those chips should really use the MMU these days. 2025-03-10drm/gma500: Remove unused psb_mmu_virtual_to_pfnDr. David Alan Gilbert
psb_mmu_virtual_to_pfn() was added in 2011 by commit 8c8f1c958ab5 ("gma500: introduce the GTT and MMU handling logic") but hasn't been used. Remove it. 2025-03-10drm/gma500/psb_intel_modes: Remove unused psb_intel_ddc_probeDr. David Alan Gilbert
psb_intel_ddc_probe() was added in 2011 by commit 89c78134cc54 ("gma500: Add Poulsbo support") but has remained unused (probably because drm_get_edid is used instead). Remove it. 2025-03-07drm/gma500: Remove unused mrst_clock_funcsDr. David Alan Gilbert
The mrst_clock_funcs const was added in 2013 by commit ac6113ebb70d ("drm/gma500/mrst: Add SDVO clock calculation") and commented as 'Not used yet'. It's not been used since, so remove it. The helper functions it points to are still used elsewhere. 2025-03-06drm/gma500: Add NULL check for pci_gfx_root in mid_get_vbt_data()Ivan Abramov
Since pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot() can return NULL, add NULL check for pci_gfx_root in the mid_get_vbt_data(). This change is similar to the checks implemented in mid_get_fuse_settings() and mid_get_pci_revID(), which were introduced by commit 0cecdd818cd7 ("gma500: Final enables for Oaktrail") as "additional minor bulletproofing". Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.
