2026-07-01drm/amd/display: guard against overflow in HDCP message dumpHarry Wentland
[Why] mod_hdcp_dump_binary_message() computed target_size (a uint32_t) as roughly byte_size * msg_size and gated the whole write on buf_size >= target_size. A large msg_size can overflow target_size, wrapping it to a small value that passes the check while the loop still writes byte_size * msg_size bytes into buf. All current callers pass small constants so this is not reachable today, but the unchecked arithmetic should be hardened. [How] Drop the overflow-prone target_size precomputation and instead bounds-check the output position on every iteration, stopping once the next entry would not leave room for the trailing terminator. This cannot overflow and, for oversized messages, dumps as much as fits rather than printing nothing. 2026-06-03drm/amd/display: Clamp HDMI HDCP2 rx_id_list read to buffer sizeHarry Wentland
[Why & How] During HDCP 2.x repeater authentication over HDMI, the driver reads the sink's RxStatus register and extracts a 10-bit message size field (max value 1023). This value is used as the read length for the ReceiverID list without being clamped to the size of the destination buffer rx_id_list[177]. A malicious HDMI repeater could advertise a message size larger than the buffer, causing an out-of-bounds write during the I2C read. Clamp the read length in mod_hdcp_read_rx_id_list() to the size of the rx_id_list buffer, matching the approach already used in the DP branch. 2026-05-05drm/amd/display: Fix type mismatches in DC and DMUB modulesGaghik Khachatrian
[Why] Address signed/unsigned comparison warnings across dc paths to keep builds warning-clean and improve type safety at comparison boundaries. Most warnings came from signed loop/index temporaries compared against unsigned counters and table sizes, plus a smaller number of mixed signed/unsigned clock, bandwidth, and geometry comparisons. [How] Aligned loop/index and bound types in the affected modules and DMUB sources, including color, freesync, power, stats, and vmid paths. Used unsigned iterators where bounds/counters are unsigned, preserved signed types where negative values are meaningful, and updated related format specifiers where type changes required it. Changes are limited to warning resolution and type alignment. No functional behavior change is intended. 2026-04-24drm/amd/display: Fix divide by zero in calc_psr_num_static_framesSrinivasan Shanmugam
calc_psr_num_static_frames() divides by vsync_rate_hz before checking whether it is zero: frame_time_microsec = 1000000 / vsync_rate_hz; This can trigger a divide-by-zero bug if an invalid refresh rate is passed in. Rewrite the calculation to directly compute the number of frames needed for at least 30 ms using DIV_ROUND_UP(). This avoids the invalid divisor and removes the temporary frame_time_microsec calculation. Keep the existing fallback behavior of 2 static frames when vsync_rate_hz is zero. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) [Why] When changing resolution (e.g., 4K → FHD) in mirror/clone mode with certain monitors, the monitor blanks and loses connection due to an early exit in vrr_settings_require_update(). During mode changes, if the calculated min/max refresh values remain the same even though the stream's v_total changed, the function returns early without updating vrr_params.adjust.v_total_min/max, leaving the monitor's VRR timing parameters unsynced with the new mode, causing it to blank out. [How] Explicitly adjust VRR parameters to the stream's nominal v_total when VRR is supported, but inactive. [why] There are some new changes for HDCP2 firmware locality check. The implementation doesn't perfectly fit the intended design and clarity. 1. Clarify and consolidate variable responsibilities. The previous implementation introduced the following variables: - config.ddc.funcs.atomic_write_poll_read_i2c (optional pointer) - hdcp->config.ddc.funcs.atomic_write_poll_read_aux (optional pointer) - hdcp->connection.link.adjust.hdcp2.force_sw_locality_check (bool) - hdcp->config.debug.lc_enable_sw_fallback (bool) - use_fw (bool) They will be used together to determine two operations: - Whether to use FW locality check - Whether to use SW fallback on FW locality check failure The refactor streamlines this by introducing two variables in the hdcp2 link adjustment, while ensuring function pointers are always assigned and remain independent from policy decisions: - use_fw_locality_check (bool) -> true if fw locality should be used. - use_sw_locality_fallback (bool) -> true to reset use_fw_locality_check back to false and retry on fw locality check failure. 2. Mixed meanings of l_prime_read transition input l_prime_read originally means if l_prime is read when sw locality check is used. When FW locality check is used, l_prime_read means if lc init write, l prime poll and l_prime read combo operation is successful. The mix of meanings is confusing. The refactor introduces a new variable l_prime_combo_read to isolate the second meaning into its own variable. 3. Missing specific error code on firmware locality error. The original change reuses the generic DDC failure error code when firmware fails to return locality check result. This is not ideal as DDC failure indicates an error occurred during an I2C/AUX transaction. FW locality failure could be caused by polling timeout in firmware or failure to acquire firmware access. Which sits at a higher level of abstraction above DDC hardware. An incorrect error code could mislead the debug into a wrong direction. 4. Correcting misplaced comments. The previous implementation of the firmware locality check resulted in some comments in hdcp2_transition being incorrectly positioned. This refactor relocates those comments to their appropriate locations for better clarity. 2025-07-15drm/amd/display: Initial support for SmartMuxAurabindo Pillai
SmartMux is a mechanism to switch the GPU being used for scanout in a hybrid configuration. This is used for devices with an eDP and two GPUs. This is only valid when the system has a physical switch (Multiplexer) in the board to switch between the two GPUs. When a graphically intensive workload like a game is being run, the system can be switch the active display to the dGPU, so that we can avoid copying the buffer from dGPU to APU for scanout. This helps with latency and FPS. When power consumption is preferred, the system can be switched to the APU. [Why] HDCP locality check has strict timing requirements, currently broken due to reliance on msleep which does not guarantee accuracy. The PR moves the write-poll-read sequence into DMUB using new generic Fused IO interface, where the timing accuracy is greatly improved. New flow is enabled using DCN resource capability bit (none for now), or using a debug flag. [How] * Extended mod_hdcp_config with new function for requesting DMUB to execute a sequence of fused I2C/AUX commands and synchronously wait until an outbox reply arrives or a timeout expires. * If the timeout expires, send an abort to DMUB. * Update HDCP to use the DMUB for locality check if supported. * Add DC_HDCP_LC_FORCE_FW_ENABLE and DC_HDCP_LC_ENABLE_SW_FALLBACK. * Make the first enable new flow regardless of resource capabilities. * Make the second enable fallback to old SW flow. * Clean up makefile source file listings for easier updates. 2024-11-04drm/amd/display: fix rxstatus_msg_sz type narrowingDominik Kaszewski
[Why] Code reading rxstatus message size was incorrectly assigning it to uint8_t, despite the value being 10 bits long (lower byte plus lowest 2 bits from upper byte). This caused the highest 2 bits to be ignored, potentially missing invalid values. [How] Change all local variables holding rxstatus message size from uint8_t to uint16_t, as in mod_hdcp_message_hdcp2::rx_id_list_size. Replaced untyped HDCP_2_2_HMID_RXSTATUS_MSG_SZ_HI macro with function hdcp_2_2_hmid_rxstatus_msg_sz(const uint8_t[2]) to encapsulate entire calculation and return a typed result. Removed spaces mixed with tabs to fix indentation on modified lines.
