2026-07-28drm/amd/display: dispatch compressed FRL cap check inside dml1_frl_cap_chk_interFangzhi Zuo
[why] DSC over HDMI FRL (e.g. 4k144) was pruned by DML mode support because the compressed FRL cap check was never reached. dml32_TruncToValidBPP() validates the FRL output by calling dml1_frl_cap_chk_inter() directly. The compressed-vs-uncompressed dispatch (if params->compressed -> dml1_frl_cap_chk_compressed()) had been moved up into the top-level dml1_frl_cap_chk() wrapper, leaving dml1_frl_cap_chk_inter() as uncompressed-only. As a result a DSC stream routed through TruncToValidBPP was validated against the full uncompressed bandwidth, failed the cap check, and the mode was pruned (vlevel == num_states). [how] Move the compressed dispatch back into dml1_frl_cap_chk_inter() so every caller of _inter() (including TruncToValidBPP) honours params->compressed. This matches the internal DAL tree. 2026-06-17drm/amd/display: Refactor surface_update_flags to flat struct with helpersRafal Ostrowski
[Why] The union surface_update_flags type uses a union with a raw uint32_t member to allow bulk clear/set/test operations on the bitfield. This couples the struct layout to a specific integer width, breaks when the number of flag bits exceeds 32, and scatters raw-access patterns across many call sites. Replacing the union with a plain struct and adding explicit helper functions makes the intent clearer and prepares the code for future flag-set expansion. [How] Rename union surface_update_flags to struct pipe_update_bits and remove the union wrapper, the .bits sub-struct, and the .raw member. Add inline helpers in dc.h: surface_update_flags_clear(), surface_update_flags_set_full(), and surface_update_flags_is_any_set() that operate on the new struct via memset/memcmp. Add stream_update_flags_clear() and stream_update_flags_set_full() in dc_stream.h for the stream update flags union. Update all callers: change the type name, replace .bits.field with .field, replace .raw = 0 with the clear helper, replace .raw = 0xFFFFFFFF with the set_full helper, and replace .raw boolean tests with is_any_set. 2026-06-04drm/amd/display: use unsigned types for local pipe and REG_GET countersAurabindo Pillai
Two small type fixes that match how the values are actually consumed: - decide_zstate_support() iterates from 0 to pipe_count, which is unsigned. Make the loop index unsigned int. - hpo_enc401_read_state() reads HDMI_PIXEL_ENCODING and HDMI_DEEP_COLOR_DEPTH via REG_GET_2(), which internally casts the output pointer to (uint32_t *). Passing the address of an int is a strict-aliasing wart even when the sizes match. Declare the locals as uint32_t. No behavioural change since the values are only compared against small non-negative constants. [Why] Address signed/unsigned comparison warnings in DC paths to keep builds warning-clean and improve type safety at comparison boundaries. Most warnings came from signed loop/index temporaries compared against unsigned counters (for example pipe_count, num_states, and resource-cap counters), plus a small number of mixed signed/unsigned checks in writeback and clock-related assertions. [How] Aligned iterator and temporary variable types with the semantic type of the compared bounds. Used unsigned indices for loops bounded by unsigned counters, and retained signed types where values are semantically signed (for example arithmetic with sentinel or signed intermediate values). Where mixed signed/unsigned comparisons are intentional, applied explicit boundary casts or split assertions (for example non-negative signed-cap checks before unsigned comparisons) instead of broad type changes. No functional behavior changes are intended; this is a warning-resolution and type-alignment cleanup. Most warnings came from signed loop/index temporaries compared against unsigned counters (for example pipe_count, num_states, and candidate/state counts), plus a small number of mixed signed/unsigned clock and geometry checks. [How] Aligned iterator and temporary variable types with the semantic type of the compared bounds. Used unsigned indices for loops bounded by unsigned counters, and retained signed types where values are semantically signed (for example plane_count math, timing/micro-schedule arithmetic, and reverse/sentinel-style iteration). Where mixed signed/unsigned comparisons are intentional, applied explicit boundary casts instead of broad type changes (for example dispclk minimum clamp and selected timing/height comparisons). As a side effect of converting count parameters such as NumberOfActivePlanes to unsigned, normalized equivalent loop forms from: for (i = 0; i <= NumberOfActivePlanes - 1; i++) into the normalized form: for (i = 0; i < NumberOfActivePlanes; i++) to keep bound style coherent and avoid avoidable mismatch patterns. No functional behavior changes are intended; this is a warning-resolution and type-alignment cleanup. [Why] Multiple display source files contain implicit narrowing conversions when assigning wider integer types (int, uint32_t) to narrower fields (uint8_t, uint16_t) at hardware register, protocol, and storage boundaries. These conversions are intentional but undocumented, and accompanying runtime assertions add noise without providing compile-time safety. [How] Add explicit casts at all intentional narrowing boundaries across display source files. Use narrower loop variable types where loop bounds guarantee safe range. Remove runtime assertions paired with narrowing casts, inline single-use intermediate variables, and revert block scopes and braces introduced solely to contain those assertions. 2026-03-30drm/amd/display: Don't set 4to1MPC config dynamicallyHarry Wentland
We were previously modifying the global dc->config.enable_4to1MPC dynamically. These variables are meant as global configs, not to by dynamically modified. Modifying them dynamically prevents us from enabling/disabling functionality for debug purposes and can easily lead to bad things since we're not operating on the current state but on DC-wide variables. Instead we should look at the existing split4mpc decision in dcn20_validate_apply_split_flags and make the decision there, if the global config.enable_4to1MPC is set to true for the DCN version we're running. This fixes corruption that is observed when running a new IGT kms_colorop test for color-space-conversion that uses a YUV plane and outputs to a writeback connector. 2026-03-30drm/amd/display: Should support p-state under dcn21Wayne Lin
[Why] Under DCN21, observe flip_done timeout issue while running 3D benchmark under MPO case. Timeout is caused by driver fails validate_bandwidth() during atomic_commit_tail but passes atomic_check. Under further analysis, indicates the delta of atomic_check and atomic_commit_tail are dc->current_state->bw_ctx.dml.soc.sr_exit_time_us and dc->current_state->bw_ctx.dml.soc.sr_enter_plus_exit_time_us. We set validate_mode as DC_VALIDATE_MODE_ONLY while calling dc_validate_global_state() at atomic_check, but set mode as DC_VALIDATE_MODE_AND_PROGRAMMING during atomic_commit_tail. If dc_validate_mode set as DC_VALIDATE_MODE_ONLY, validate_bandwidth() will skip the wm and dlg calculation. During commit_tail, validate_bandwidth() is called with dc_validate_mode set as DC_VALIDATE_MODE_AND_PROGRAMMING and dc_state->bw_ctx.dml.soc.sr_exit_time_us might get modified after the wm_calculation and stored into dc->current_state. Which means dc->current_state->bw_ctx.dml.soc.sr_exit_time_us might not aligned with the one stored in dm_state->context. That causes duplicated dm_state->context not aligned with dc->current_state, and might have bandwidth validation pass in atomic_check and fail in commit_tail later. [How] When the issue occurs, it fails dml_get_voltage_level() with the condition dm_allow_self_refresh_and_mclk_switch but pass with the condition dm_allow_self_refresh. However, we should support p-state. So we should not pass validate_bandwidth by allowing self refresh only. Change the policy under DCN21. Most of the parameters between the two callsites are the same, so they can be accessed through the existing mode_lib pointer, instead of being passed as explicit arguments. Doing this reduces the stack size of dml30_ModeSupportAndSystemConfigurationFull() from 1912 bytes to 1840 bytes building for x86_64 with clang-22, helping stay under the 2048 byte limit for display_mode_vba_30.c. Additionally, now that there is a pointer to mode_lib->vba available, use 'v' consistently throughout the entire function. 2025-10-07drm/amd/display: Fix unsafe uses of kernel mode FPUArd Biesheuvel
The point of isolating code that uses kernel mode FPU in separate compilation units is to ensure that even implicit uses of, e.g., SIMD registers for spilling occur only in a context where this is permitted, i.e., from inside a kernel_fpu_begin/end block. This is important on arm64, which uses -mgeneral-regs-only to build all kernel code, with the exception of such compilation units where FP or SIMD registers are expected to be used. Given that the compiler may invent uses of FP/SIMD anywhere in such a unit, none of its code may be accessible from outside a kernel_fpu_begin/end block. This means that all callers into such compilation units must use the DC_FP start/end macros, which must not occur there themselves. For robustness, all functions with external linkage that reside there should call dc_assert_fp_enabled() to assert that the FPU context was set up correctly. Fix this for the DCN35, DCN351 and DCN36 implementations. [Why] Urgent latency adjustment was disabled on DCN35 due to issues with P0 enablement on some platforms. Without urgent latency, underflows occur when doing certain high timing configurations. After testing, we found that reenabling urgent latency didn't reintroduce p0 support on multiple platforms. [How] renable urgent latency on DCN35 and setting it to 3000 Mhz. There is a type mismatch between what CalculateDynamicMetadataParameters() takes and what is passed to it. Currently this function accepts several args as signed long but it's called with unsigned integers and integer. On some systems where long is 32 bits and one of these unsigned int params is greater than INT_MAX it may cause passing input params as negative values. Fix this by changing these argument types from long to unsigned int and to int respectively. Also this will align the function's definition with similar functions in other dcn* drivers. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Svace. The last use of optc3_fpu_set_vrr_m_const() was removed in 2022's commit 64f991590ff4 ("drm/amd/display: Fix a compilation failure on PowerPC caused by FPU code") which removed the only caller (with a similar) name.
