[ Upstream commit 5f8b69642d18e1f3e11996707842ac530444e959 ]

scx_cgroup_lock() write-locks scx_cgroup_ops_rwsem and then takes
cgroup_lock(), which can deadlock through kernfs:

  scx enable/disable cgroup rmdir cpu.weight write
  ------------------         ------------           ----------------
                             cgroup_lock()
  percpu_down_write(rwsem)
  cgroup_lock()
                                                    kernfs_get_active()
                                                    percpu_down_read(rwsem)
                             kernfs_drain()

The enable path waits for the rmdir to release cgroup_mutex. The rmdir,
deactivating the cpu controller's files, waits in kernfs_drain() for the
write's active reference. The write, in scx_group_set_weight(), waits for
the rwsem behind the pending writer.

Take cgroup_lock() first. The set_* paths take no cgroup locks inside the
read side, so a pending write-lock then only waits for read sections that
always run to completion, and no dependency from the rwsem back to
cgroup_mutex remains.

[ Upstream commit dbd542a8fac7bcfba91e353f2a522e1bf2fbee27 ]

In preparation for multiple scheduler support, reorganize the enable and
disable paths to make scheduler instances explicit. Extract
scx_root_disable() from scx_disable_workfn(). Rename scx_enable_workfn()
to scx_root_enable_workfn(). Change scx_disable() to take @sch parameter
and only queue disable_work if scx_claim_exit() succeeds for consistency.
Move exit_kind validation into scx_claim_exit(). The sysrq handler now
prints a message when no scheduler is loaded.

These changes don't materially affect user-visible behavior.

v2: Keep scx_enable() name as-is and only rename the workfn to
    scx_root_enable_workfn(). Change scx_enable() return type to s32.

[ Upstream commit b7d9c359e5cf867f7eb23df3bb1c6b9e58af24da ]

put_prev_task_scx() warns when a runnable task drops to a lower sched_class
without SCX_OPS_ENQ_LAST, on the assumption that balance_one() would have
kept it running. Core scheduling breaks that: a forced-idle SMT sibling
reschedules through the core_pick fast path in pick_next_task(), which skips
pick_task_scx() and thus balance_one(), so a runnable task can drop to idle
with ENQ_LAST unset.

Gate the warning on sched_cpu_cookie_match(): a cookie mismatch means core
scheduling forced the idle, while a match (or core scheduling off) still
catches a genuine missing-ENQ_LAST drop.

[ Upstream commit 12b5cd99a05f7cbc2ceb88b3b9601d404ef2236a ]

Early when trying to get sched_ext and proxy-exe working together,
I kept tripping over NULL ptr in put_prev_task_scx() on the line:
  if (sched_class_above(&amp;ext_sched_class, next-&gt;sched_class)) {

Which was due to put_prev_task() passes a NULL next, calling:
  prev-&gt;sched_class-&gt;put_prev_task(rq, prev, NULL);

put_prev_task_scx() already guards for a NULL next in the
switch_class case, but doesn't seem to have a guard for
sched_class_above() check.

I can't say I understand why this doesn't trip usually without
proxy-exec. And in newer kernels there are way fewer
put_prev_task(), and I can't easily reproduce the issue now
even with proxy-exec.

But we still have one put_prev_task() call left in core.c that
seems like it could trip this, so I wanted to send this out for
consideration.

tj: put_prev_task() can be called with NULL @next; however, when @p is
queued, that doesn't happen, so this condition shouldn't currently be
triggerable. The connection isn't straightforward or necessarily reliable,
so add the NULL check even if it can't currently be triggered.

commit 02e545c4297a26dbbc41df81b831e7f605bcd306 upstream.

A WARN fires when systemd's user manager writes "+cpu +memory +pids" to
its own subtree_control while a sched_ext scheduler is loaded:

  WARNING: at kernel/sched/ext.c:3227 scx_cgroup_move_task+0xa8/0xb0
   scx_cgroup_move_task+0xa8/0xb0
   sched_move_task+0x134/0x290

   cgroup_update_dfl_csses+0x1e3/0x270
   cgroup_subtree_control_write+0x3e7/0x440

scx_cgroup_can_attach() arms cgrp_moving_from only when a task's cpu
cgroup changes. It can still be NULL when scx_cgroup_move_task() runs,
through this sequence:

  Step                               Result
  ---------------------------------  ----------------------------------
  1. cpu enabled on cgroup G cpu css = A
  2. cpu toggled off then on for G A killed, B created (same cgroup)
  3. an exiting task keeps A alive migration skips it, A now stale
  4. +memory migrates G              stale A vs current B pulls cpu in
  5. cpu attach runs for all tasks hits a live, cpu-unchanged task
  6. scx_cgroup_move_task() on it    cgrp_moving_from NULL -&gt; WARN

The mismatch is that scx_cgroup_can_attach() keys on cgroup identity
while migration drives the move on css identity, so a NULL cgrp_moving_from
here is a legitimate css-only migration, not a missing prep.

The call is already gated on cgrp_moving_from, so just drop the warning.
ops.cgroup_prep_move() and ops.cgroup_move() stay paired.

[ Upstream commit 9a415cc53711f2238e0f0ca8a6bcc796c003b127 ]

In scx_root_enable_workfn(), put_task_struct(p) is called before scx_error()
dereferences p-&gt;comm and p-&gt;pid. If the iterator's reference is the last
drop, the task is freed synchronously and the deref becomes a UAF.

Move put_task_struct() past scx_error().

<title>sched_ext: Fix missing warning in scx_set_task_state() default case</title>

[ Upstream commit b905ee77d5f557a83a485b4146210f54f13365fc ]

In scx_set_task_state(), the default case was setting the
warn flag, but then returning immediately. This is problematic
because the only purpose of the warn flag is to trigger
WARN_ONCE, but the early return prevented it from ever firing,
leaving invalid task states undetected and untraced.

To fix this, a WARN_ONCE call is now added directly in the
default case.

The fix addresses two aspects:

 - Guarantees the invalid task states are properly logged
   and traced.

 - Provides a distinct warning message
   ("sched_ext: Invalid task state") specifically for
   states outside the defined scx_task_state enum values,
   making it easier to distinguish from other transition
   warnings.

This ensures proper detection and reporting of invalid states.

[ Upstream commit 4155fb489fa175ec74eedde7d02219cf2fe74303 ]

scx_prio_less() runs from core-sched's pick_next_task() path with rq
locked but invokes ops.core_sched_before() with NULL locked_rq, leaving
scx_locked_rq_state NULL. If the BPF callback calls a kfunc that
re-acquires rq based on scx_locked_rq() - e.g. scx_bpf_cpuperf_set(cpu)
- it re-acquires the already-held rq.

Pass task_rq(a).
