commit 783f0f0974c156aca630f4ffff248671082a098d upstream.

audit_del_rule() is used for both netlink deletion templates and internal
fsnotify autoremove. The former passes a parsed template which owns a
temporary tree reference; the latter passes the installed entry itself.

The unconditional audit_put_tree() at the end of audit_del_rule() assumes
the template case. For mixed AUDIT_DIR plus AUDIT_EXE rules, an fsnotify
autoremove event therefore drops the installed rule's live tree reference.
Repeating this across rules sharing the same tree can free the tree while
another rule still references it, and a later autoremove dereferences the
freed pathname while comparing rules.

Move the temporary-tree put to audit_rule_change(), the caller that owns
deletion templates. Keep it in the AUDIT_DEL_RULE cleanup so both
successful deletion and -ENOENT still release the parser-owned tree.

commit 246df90b5f1a8a6e6abbd2f058b029558720adec upstream.

`audit_del_rule()` destroys `e-&gt;rule.exe` via `audit_remove_mark_rule()`
before unlinking the rule from RCU-visible filter lists and waiting for a
grace period. Concurrent readers in `audit_filter()` and
`audit_filter_rules()` still dereference `e-&gt;rule.exe`, while the fsnotify
mark can be freed on an independent lifetime path. This creates a
use-after-free window during rule deletion.

Fix this by unlinking the rule from the RCU-visible lists and invoking
`synchronize_rcu()` before calling `audit_remove_mark_rule()` (and other
rule removal helpers). This ensures that all existing RCU readers have
exited the critical section before any underlying resources are destroyed.

[ Upstream commit 81905b5acbe77284734438df3fbec1158e6429a3 ]

A deadlock occurs in the audit subsystem when duplicating
executable-related rules.

When a file is moved (e.g., via do_renameat2()), the VFS layer locks
the parent directory (I_MUTEX_PARENT), which synchronously triggers an
fsnotify_move event. If an existing executable audit rule matches the
file being moved, the audit subsystem catches this event and calls
audit_dupe_exe() to duplicate the watch and update the rule. Then,
audit_alloc_mark() would call kern_path_parent() to resolve the path,
leading to a blind attempt to acquire the exact same I_MUTEX_PARENT lock
already held by the task, resulting in the following recursive locking
deadlock:

The aforementioned deadlock can be consistently reproduced by running
the script below:

 audit-dupe-exe-deadlock.sh
 --------------------------
 #!/bin/bash
 auditctl -D
 mkdir -p /tmp/foo
 touch /tmp/file
 auditctl -a always,exit -F exe=/tmp/file -F path=/tmp/file -S all -k dr
 mv /tmp/file /tmp/foo/file
 rm -Rf /tmp/foo

This patch fixes the issue by introducing struct audit_watch_ctx to pass
the fsnotify event context down to audit_alloc_mark(). By utilizing the
already-resolved directory inode provided by the event, we bypass the
kern_path_parent() path resolution entirely, safely avoiding the
recursive lock. Furthermore, it explicitly allows duplicate fsnotify
marks (allow_dups = 1) during the rename update, allowing the new rule's
mark to safely coexist with the old rule's mark until the old rule is
freed.

P.S.: This issue was identified and reproduced during a comprehensive
code coverage analysis of the audit subsystem. The full report is
available at the link below:

https://people.redhat.com/rrobaina/audit-code-coverage-analysis.pdf

P.P.S: With the permission of both Ricardo and Nathan, I've squashed a
fixup patch from Nathan that addresses a compile time error when
CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=n.

<title>audit: use task_tgid_nr() instead of task_pid_nr()</title>

In a few audit records, PIDs were being recorded with task_pid_nr()
instead of task_tgid_nr().

$ grep "task_pid_nr" kernel/audit*.c
audit.c:       task_pid_nr(current),
auditfilter.c: pid = task_pid_nr(current);
auditsc.c:     audit_log_format(ab, " pid=%u", task_pid_nr(current));

For single-thread applications, the process id (pid) and the thread
group id (tgid) are the same. However, on multi-thread applications,
task_pid_nr() returns the current thread id (user-space's TID), while
task_tgid_nr() returns the main thread id (user-space's PID). Since
the users are more interested in the process id (pid), rather than the
thread id (tid), this patch converts these callers to the correct method.

Commit c7423dbdbc9e ("ima: Handle -ESTALE returned by
ima_filter_rule_match()") introduced call to ima_lsm_copy_rule within a
RCU read-side critical section which contains kmalloc with GFP_KERNEL.
This implies a possible sleep and violates limitations of RCU read-side
critical sections on non-PREEMPT systems.

Sleeping within RCU read-side critical section might cause
synchronize_rcu() returning early and break RCU protection, allowing a
UAF to happen.

The root cause of this issue could be described as follows:
|	Thread A	|	Thread B	|
|			|ima_match_policy	|
|			|  rcu_read_lock	|
|ima_lsm_update_rule	|			|
|  synchronize_rcu	|			|
|			|    kmalloc(GFP_KERNEL)|
|			|      sleep		|
==&gt; synchronize_rcu returns early
|  kfree(entry)		|			|
|			|    entry = entry-&gt;next|
==&gt; UAF happens and entry now becomes NULL (or could be anything).
|			|    entry-&gt;action	|
==&gt; Accessing entry might cause panic.

To fix this issue, we are converting all kmalloc that is called within
RCU read-side critical section to use GFP_ATOMIC.
