Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the
output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty
well so far, but causes several issues:

- It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM
connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a
pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data,
and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and
disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model.

- It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector
handling code, resulting in code duplication.

- It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to
another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both
positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in
the analogix_dp bridge driver).

In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be
moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented
using helpers provided by the core).

Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge
drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to
the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to
skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to
0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge
drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as
they don't support this feature yet.

The change is based on the following semantic patch, with manual review
and edits.

<title>drm/imx: pd: Use bus format/flags provided by the bridge when available</title>

Now that bridges can expose the bus format/flags they expect, we can
use those instead of the relying on the display_info provided by the
connector (which is only valid if the encoder is directly connected
to bridge element driving the panel/display).

We also explicitly expose the bus formats supported by our encoder by
filling encoder-&gt;output_bus_caps with proper info.

v10:
* Add changelog to the commit message
* Use kmalloc() instead of kcalloc()
* Add a dev_warn() when unsupported flags are requested

v8 -&gt; v9:
* No changes

v7:
* Add an imx_pd_format_supported() helper (suggested by Philipp)
* Simplify imx_pd_bridge_atomic_get_output_bus_fmts() (suggested by Philipp)
* Simplify imx_pd_bridge_atomic_get_input_bus_fmts()
* Explicitly set the duplicate/destro_state() and reset() hooks

v4 -&gt; v6:
* Patch was not part of the series

v3 (all suggested by Philipp):
* Adjust to match core changes
* Propagate output format to input format
* Pick a default value when output_fmt = _FIXED
* Add missing BGR888 and GBR888 fmts to imx_pd_bus_fmts[]

v2:
* Adjust things to match the new bus-format negotiation infra

To facilitate moving connector creation to display drivers,
decouple the drm_connector from drm_panel.

This patch adds a connector argument to drm_panel_get_modes().

All users of drm_panel_get_modes() already had the connector
available, so updating users was trivial.

With this patch drm_panel no longer keeps a reference to the drm_connector.

We haven't done any backmerge for a while due to the merge window, and it
starts to become an issue for komeda. Let's bring 5.4-rc1 in.

We are about to add a drm_bridge_state that inherits from
drm_private_state which is defined in drm_atomic.h. Problem is,
drm_atomic.h includes drm_crtc.h which in turn includes drm_bridge.h,
leading to "drm_private_state has incomplete type" error.

Let's force all users of the drm_bridge API to explicitly include
drm_bridge.h.

drm/imx: IPUv3 image converter fixes and improvements

Fix image converter seam handling for 1024x1024 pixel hardware
limitation at the main processing section input, improve error
handling, and slightly optimize for 1:1 conversions.
Add support for newly defined 32-bit RGB V4L2 pixel formats.

The dw-hdmi, kirin and imx drivers include the drm/drm_encoder_slave.h

Use the drm_panel_get_modes() function to get the modes.

This patch leave one test for the function pointer:
    panel-&gt;funcs-&gt;get_modes

This is used to check if the panel may have any modes.
There is no direct replacement.
We may be able to just check that drm_panel_get_modes() return &gt; 0,
but as this is not the same functionality it is left for later.
